Mastering Problem Solving: A Step-by-Step Guide 💡🔍

When faced with a complex problem, it's crucial to start by taking a deep breath and reminding yourself that you can tackle it step by step. 🧠💡

Step one: Clearly define the problem. What are you trying to solve? Be specific and write it down. 📝

Step two: Gather all relevant information. What do you already know? What do you need to research or gather data on? 📚🔍

Step three: Break the problem into smaller, manageable parts. Think of it as dividing and conquering. 🧩

Step four: Prioritize the sub-problems. What needs to be solved first? What can wait? 📊

Step five: Develop a plan or strategy for each sub-problem. How will you approach solving them? 💪

Step six: Start with the first sub-problem and work through your plan. Don't rush; focus on quality solutions. ⏳

Step seven: As you solve each sub-problem, check it off your list. Celebrate your progress! 🎉

Step eight: If you get stuck, don't be afraid to revisit your plan, gather more information, or seek advice. Problem-solving is iterative. 🔄

Step nine: Once all sub-problems are solved, piece them together to solve the main problem. 🧩➡️🔍

Step ten: Reflect on the process. What did you learn? How can you improve your problem-solving skills for next time? 🤔📈

Remember, every problem can be broken down and tackled step by step. Don't be discouraged; you've got this! 💪💡

The Importance of a Philosophy Degree

Apart from having a passion for a particular discipline, another factor that determines the choice of study in the university is the relevance, utility, and marketability of the course. For so long, Philosophy as a discipline has been regarded as a dead course; a course for losers; a course for those who could not get something better to study; a course that cannot “bake bread.” However, proper reality check shows that to a large extent, this understanding appears to be due to ignorance, misinformation or malinformation.
We live in a broken world that is constantly in need of fixing. As such, identifying and solving problems becomes the basis for which the world goes round. To really attend to these problems requires wisdom. And this is where philosophy comes in, since philosophy basically means love of wisdom. A good study of philosophy therefore arms the learner with the critical, analytical, and problem solving skills required to thrive in any area of life.
In more concrete terms, a person with a philosophy degree can work in the following sectors:

1. Religious Circles: Either as priests, pastors, evangelists etc. the study of philosophy helps the learner develop critical thinking and polished speaking skills needed to study, interpret and teach God’s word, and also relate with people in different dynamic settings.

2. Politics: More than ever, there is need for more sane, humane, and wise politicians in Nigeria. It has been proven down the ages  that philosophers make or become better politicians or leaders.

3. Healthcare: Philosophers can go on to become social workers, efficient administrators, or bioethical consultants in the healthcare sector. They even decide to pick up the challenge to pursue pure medicine or nursing to become a doctor or nurse after their philosophical degree.

4. Government Ministries and Non-Governmental Organizations: Philosophers can work in different Federal, State, and Local Government ministries in the nation. For example- ministry of education, ministry of transportation etc. They can also work in non-governmental organizations dedicated to various needs.

5. Security Agencies & Military: Due to their critical thinking skills, philosophers are always the preferred choice in the intelligence unit of security agencies and other military/paramilitary sectors of the nation.

6. Psychology: Philosophers can go on to pursue advanced degrees in psychology and become clinical, counselling, or organizational psychologists for hospitals, companies, and other human needs.

7. Law: Philosophers can easily excel in the study of law to become formidable advocates of justice in any nation.

8. Journalism: Philosophers are trained to have an eye that sees details that are easily overlooked by the common eye. This makes them better journalists that can bring in true reports, news and intelligence for public consumption.

9. Business: A philosopher who goes into business will have the critical skills to see what the real problems of people per time are and how to develop a business model that will meet the needs of the people.

10. Artists, Musicians, Influencers, Life Coaches: One of the reasons why Laycon of Big Brother Naija succeeded during his time was because of his philosophy background.
The list is endless and this list is in no way exhaustive. The idea is just to show that the only limit that a person with a philosophy degree can have is the limit that such a person puts on himself/herself.

Very Rev. Fr Sylvanus Attoh
Chairman, Admission Committee.

A LOVELY CHOICE

In the realm of life, where options abound, A tapestry of choices, beautifully wound. With every step, a path unfolds in grace, Each decision holds a unique embrace.

It's a lovely choice, to dance with delight, To chase dreams with fervor, in day and night.Embrace the unknown, with fearless allure, Discovering treasures, uncharted and pure.

Choose love, kindness, compassion's sweet voice, Spread joy like petals, let hearts rejoice. In the tapestry of life, threads intertwine, Weaving a story, where destinies align

Choose forgiveness over bitterness' sting, Let gratitude bloom, like flowers in spring. For in our choices, we find our true voice, A symphony of moments, a lovely choice.

Being alive is a competition

Viewing life as a competition is one way to perceive the dynamic nature of human existence. While it may not be the only lens through which to interpret life, this perspective emphasizes the drive for progress, achievement, and personal growth.

In this competitive outlook, individuals recognize that they are constantly faced with challenges and obstacles that require them to strive for improvement. It encourages them to develop their skills, talents, and knowledge, pushing themselves beyond their comfort zones in pursuit of success. The idea is that by actively participating in the "competition," individuals can enhance their chances of achieving their goals and realizing their aspirations.

Similar to a competition, life presents a diverse range of opportunities and avenues for advancement. Individuals must often contend with limited resources, societal expectations, and the presence of others vying for similar objectives. This fosters an environment where one must utilize their strengths, creativity, and determination to stand out and make progress.

Additionally, perceiving life as a competition can instill a sense of urgency and motivation to make the most of one's time. It encourages individuals to set goals, make strategic plans, and take decisive actions to gain an edge over others or to achieve personal fulfillment. This competitive mindset can be a driving force for innovation, self-improvement, and perseverance in the face of adversity.

However, it's important to note that life encompasses various aspects beyond competition, such as cooperation, collaboration, and personal well-being. While competition can be a catalyst for growth, it is equally essential to strike a balance by nurturing relationships, fostering empathy, and cultivating a sense of community. Ultimately, each person has the freedom to interpret and engage with life in a way that aligns with their values, aspirations, and understanding of success.

Helped of the Lord

As human beings we all need help
The Lord is our source of help
It is evident in Isaiah 41:13
Fear not, I am the one who helps you.

This steadfast love only comes from God
When we cry out to the Lord
He always listens and ready to help
Because he knows what is best

What God Cannot do Does not exist
